What is Deep Tissue Massage?Deep Tissue Massage

A Deep Tissue Massage is a type of massage that releases the tension in the body by using slow, deep strokes pressed across the muscle fiber. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. This massage loosens muscle tissues, releases toxins from muscles and helps circulate blood and oxygen in the muscles.
How does a Deep Tissue Massage feel?
A Deep Tissue Massage is relaxing, but some moderate discomfort may be felt due to the deep strokes applied during the massage.
What can Deep Tissue Massage help treat?
A Deep Tissue Massage can provide relief from muscular aches, pains, sprains, strains, poor circulation, rheumatic and arthritic conditions, back pain and scar tissue.

What is Hot Stone Therapy?Hot Stone Therapy
Hot Stone Therapy is a form of massage that uses specially heated stones combined with Swedish-style massage movements. It has healing properties for both the skin and muscles.
What can Hot Stone Therapy help treat?
Hot Stone Therapy can provide relief from muscular aches, pains, sprains, strains, poor circulation, rheumatic and arthritic conditions, fibromyalgia, back pain, stress, anxiety and tension.
What kinds of stones are used?
Stones of varying shapes that have been naturally smoothed by a river are used. Some stones are heated, and some are left cool. Larger stones are used along the spine, and smaller stones are placed on other parts of the body. For facials, crystals such as quartz and semi-precious stones are used.
How do the stones work?
Stones are heated to a comfortable, warm temperature and placed on the back along the spine. Other stones massage the arms, legs and head. The heat from the stones helps increase the heart rate and regulates blood flow. It helps rid the muscles of toxic waste products which build up from stress. Stiff joints benefit from the penetrating heat, and Hot Stone Therapy also helps with stress and skin disorders. Sometimes cold stones are applied to further stimulate blood circulation.
How does Hot Stone Therapy feel?
Hot Stone Therapy is a relaxing, soothing massage that is comfortable and enjoyable.

What is Shiatsu?Shiatsu
Shiatsu is an eastern form of massage that utilizes pressure and stretching techniques through a combination of pressing, sweeping, shaking, rotating, vibrating, patting, lifting, rolling and brushing.
How does it work?
Shiatsu works by creating a physical, mental and spiritual balance that allows the client to discover the source of stress and tension and alleviate emotional anxiety. Shiatsu is done through the clothes and takes a little over an hour. Clients lay on a thick mat on the floor, and the therapist diagnoses them through visual, auditory and touch techniques to determine where pressure should be applied.
What are the physical benefits of Shiatsu?
Shiatsu helps maintain overall health and aids in conditions such as arthritis, backaches, emotional difficulties, headaches, migraines, insomnia, tiredness, intestinal disorders, menstrual problems, muscular tensions, reproductive problems, respiratory difficulties and stress related disorders. Benefits such as skin flexibility, improvement of the circulatory system, flexibility of the muscular system, improvement of the endocrine system and regulation of the functions in the nervous system can occur through Shiatsu.
What happens during a Shiatsu massage?
During a Shiatsu massage, the skin surface is stimulated, in order to provoke a specific response from the nervous system. Some physical reactions may occur during Shiatsu, including contracting muscles, dilating pupils, contracting blood vessels, increasing heartbeat, dry mouth and a release of more glucose to the muscles. Sometimes an emotional release occurs.
What is felt after a session?
At the end of a session clients, feel relaxed and energized with a sense of calm or rest. There is an increase of flexibility and a decrease in muscular aches.

What is a Swedish Massage?Swedish Massage
A Swedish Massage is a type of massage using a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart.
How does it work?
A Swedish Massage increases oxygen flow in the blood, releases toxins from the muscles and shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid and metabolic wastes. It increases circulation and stretches ligaments and tendons, keeping them supple and pliable. A Swedish Massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves at the same time. All this is accomplished by using several different techniques of hand massage.
What type of techniques are used?
  • Effleurage – This technique consists of long, gliding strokes from the neck down to the base of the spine or from the shoulder down to the fingertips. All strokes are made toward the heart to aid in blood and lymphatic flow. This is accomplished through movements of the whole hand or the thumbs.
  • Petrissage – This massage technique involves gently lifting muscles up and away from the bones, then rolling and squeezing them with a gentle pressure. This technique is meant to increase circulation by clearing out toxins from muscle and nerve tissue.
  • Friction – This is the most penetrating of the strokes during a Swedish Massage. It consists of deep circular movements made with the thumbs or fingertips. Deep, circular movement is applied near joints and bony areas such as the side of the spine. This friction breaks down adhesions and contributes to more flexible muscles and joints.
  • Tapotement – Tapotement consists of a series of briskly applied movements that use the hands alternately to strike or tap the muscles for an invigorating effect. This stroke has many variations such as using the edge of the hand, the tips of the fingers or the closed fist. It releases tension and cramping from muscles.
  • Vibration or Shaking – This consists of pressing hands on the back or limbs and rapidly shaking for a few seconds. This technique boosts circulation and is particularly helpful for lower back pain.
What can a Swedish Massage treat?
A Swedish Massage can provide relief from muscular aches, pains, sprains, poor circulation, rheumatic and arthritic conditions and back pain.
